Here are some great tips to help you develop more skill when singing riffs and runs! In order to effectively sing runs, you need to focus on pitch and timing (speed).

#1 – Practice slowly using the interval drill from coach Jeremie (as seen in the video above)

By practicing slowly at first, you’ll ensure that you’re able to properly hit the sequence of notes in the riff or run. As you feel more comfortable, you can speed up! Just like any other form of exercise, you have to practice to improve. In this case, the more you practice, the faster you’ll be able to perform the riff while still maintaining note accuracy.

#2 – Change up the timing to create a riff or run melody

Now, you’ll want to change the speed and duration of the notes by changing the arrangement. This part of the video starts at the ~4:15 mark.
